Description
Around 22 years of co-learning in the development sector with tribal communities of Jharkhand on a spectrum of development issues, through community empowerment processes. Experience of working with grassroot level implementation agencies; international non-profits, UN agency, and national level technical agencies. Implemented projects funded by international donors like DFID, USAID, WaterAid, European Commission, Gates Foundation, etc.
Sectoral Learning:
a) Maternal and Child Health & Nutrition (RMNCH)
- Modelling community-based management of child malnutrition (CMAM) in rural pockets.
- Promotion of the ‘first 1000-days care’ package through the health system for mother and child health and nutrition.
- Facilitating the ‘couple communication strategy’ for improving family planning indicators amongst young married couples.
- Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV and syphilis to the care and treatment cascade under the EMTCT program.
b) Adolescent Health, Nutrition & Empowerment
- Life-skill and agency development within adolescents through a peer led approach leading to improvement of indicators on @ual & reproductive health & rights (SRHR).
- Prevention of Adolescent Anaemia through supplementation and dietary diversity.
- Leadership development amongst adolescent and young people.
c) Child Protection
- Child vulnerability tracking and reduction (focussed on children in need of care and protection - CNCP), by strengthening of community gatekeeping mechanisms through a community-led child protection strategy (preventive approach).
- Promotion of family-based care for ensuring that the child doesn’t get out of the family safety net and prevent them from getting harmed.
- Facilitating deinstitutionalization of children in child-care institutions (CCIs) by strengthening the government child protection system, ensuring successful reintegration of children from CCIs to their own family or any suitable alternative care mechanism.
d) Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Promotion (WASH)
- Executing an integrated WASH-in-School and WASH-in-Community programs. Facilitate a process of creating WASH secure communities and schools.
- Designing and rolling-out behaviour change communication strategy on WASH behaviour and practices
- Community-based behaviour change campaigns on hygiene issues (including focused initiatives on menstrual hygiene management)
- Solid and liquid waste management in rural context.
e) Participatory Water Resource Management
- Facilitating a process of participatory ground water management through a cadre of para-hydrogeologists.
- Water resource management through a watershed management approach.
- Establishing community-based systems for installation and management of rural drinking water supply schemes in a decentralized manner.
f) Practicing Community Based Monitoring (CBM)
- Developing resource materials on the use of CBM in various thematic areas as per the context and background
- Development of project specific and stakeholder specific tools for executing CBM
- Training of master trainers on the use of CBM
- mentoring teams and guiding the process of CBM in various thematic areas like maternal and child health and nutrition, education, water sanitation hygiene, water resource management, livelihoods promotion, child protection, access to social security programs, food security, etc.
