Patient management system for a doctor’s clinic.

This application will be used by an ayurvedic doctor to manage her patient’s history, appointments, prescriptions & visit charges receipts.

Challenge – Medicines are not standardized with respect to name/ contents / make, so having a database for the medicines may not be possible. Many times, home remedies are also prescribed.

Typing medicines for each patient will be time consuming

Solution – Application front end will run on a tablet (iPad) possibly via browser with pen support. Backend can be deployed on a Windows/Linux box. The doctor will write the prescription using the iPad & pen which will be stored as a file in the application and associated with the patient. Doctor should be able to print this prescription.

Scenarios

Databases

1) Patient database – database with details like Name, DOB, address, mobile no., family details WhatsApp no., email id etc.

2) Appointment database – appointment date, time, patient name

3) Case paper database. – List of questions and their answers where standardization of answers is possible.

Step 1 - Appointment

1) When a new patient calls for an appointment, doctor will open scheduler and add an appointment. This screen will have an option to add new patient – here doctor will add name and mobile number, save patient and schedule an appointment.

2) When an existing patient calls for an appointment, doctor will open scheduler, pick patient and add an appointment

3) A SMS is sent to patient confirming appointment along with details of time and date. If possible same are sent on WhatsApp along with location. (location - maybe for first visit)

4) On the day of appointment, SMS / WhatsApp notification is resent to patient. Popup on iPad for doctor?

Step 2 – Patient has arrived for consulting

1) New patient – Doctor prepares a case paper for all new patients. This involves a list of questions which the patient needs to answer. Some of the answers can be from a drop down, some will need to be written (pen on tablet) as may be unique for patients. Facility to add more questions and answers in each case paper. This is the first and primary document created and tagged with patient.

2) Existing patient – Doctor will view his case paper and all follow-up history.

3) Each visit - patient’s problems, feedback and diagnosis are entered and saved as follow-up1

4) Doctor will then write prescription (using pen on tablet), print and hand over to patient.

5) If required doctor will print a simple consulting charges receipt.

6) Doctor will add an appointment for scheduled next visit. (Followed by Step 1 point 3 & 4)

Each patient will have a case paper as primary document. Each visit will have a follow-up-x + prescription-x document. When patient arrives, doctor will be able to view case paper and all follow-up + prescriptions.
